01. Casa Cerro da Correia -» Poço do Inferno

Poço do Inferno, as the name suggests, is a well or small lagoon in the middle of Serra da Estrela, resulting from a waterfall about 10 meters high, formed by the waters of Ribeira de Leandres.

02. Poço do Inferno -» Covão d'Ametade
[14 Kms (8.69 miles) - 20 Min.]
It is a paradisiacal setting full of bucolic and poetic feelings. The beginning of the Zêzere River and the three Cântaros that rise around this place: Cântaro Raso, Cântaro Magro and Cântaro Gordo. Take a snack, a blanket and relax.

03. Covão d'Ametade -» Nave de Santo António

Nave de Santo António is a plateau-shaped place located at around 1500 meters of altitude. It was covered with ice during the various advances and retreats of glaciations that occurred in Serra da Estrela and formed the divide between the glacial tongues that spread north along the Zêzere Valley. In the background you can see the Poio do Judeu.

04. Nave de Santo António -» Sra. da Boa Estrela / Covão do boi

Senhora da Boa Estrela - more than 7 meters tall – is carved in low relief, in the granite rock of the Cântaro Raso foothills. In Covão do Boi is the largest group of pedunculate and columnar blocks in Serra da Estrela, resulting from erosion and known locally as ‘queijeiras’. This is one of the 3 geosites of international interest classified in Estrela Geopark.

05. Senhora da Boa Estrela -» Torre

The Tower is the highest point in Serra da Estrela and also in mainland Portugal, and the second highest in Portugal. Some say that sunrise and sunset are super special here. Take the opportunity to visit the Estrela Geopark Interpretation Center.

06. Torre -» Salgadeiras

About 3 km from Torre (towards Sabugueiro/Seia) we find this place of impressive and diverse beauty. On the right, take the pedestrian trail (Rota do Masiço Central) and follow the red markings that will take you to Salgadeiras. On the left side you can enjoy the immensity of the view over the Loriga dam and the entire hillside.

07. Salgadeiras -» Lagoa Comprida
[8 Kms (4.50 miles) - 11 Min.]
Lagoa Comprida is the best known and largest of the lagoons in the upper Serra da Estrela massif. It constitutes the main water reservoir in Serra da Estrela. On the north side you can see one of the most interesting fields of erratic blocks in Estrela. These granite blocks were transported by glaciers and abandoned when the ice melted and retreated.

08. Lagoa Comprida -» Mondeguinho

Beginning of the Mondego River, where water flows from a rock into a stone basin. It then heads northeast and, in Celorico da Beira, changes southwest, flowing into Figueira da Foz, covering a total of 227 km. The longest Portuguese river begins here. Taste this fresh, pure water and take fill your bottle.

09. Mondeguinho -» Covão da Ponte

Covão da Ponte is located at an altitude of 960 meters (0.60 miles) where the Mondego River flows in the initial phase of its route. In this scenario there is a great diversity of flora and fauna species that contribute to the scenic and recreational value of the place. Here you can cool off by taking a bath in the Mondego, resting on the grass or having a meal outdoors.
