Poço do Inferno, as its name indicates, is a well or a small lagoon in Serra da Estrela, resulting from a waterfall of about 10 meters high, formed by a brook called Ribeira de Leandres.

It is a paradisiacal scenery loaded with bucolic and poetic feeling. The beginning of the Zêzere River and the three Cântaros (massive granite walls) that rise around this place: Cântaro Raso , Cântaro Magro and Cântaro Gordo.

03. Covão da Ametade -» Nave de Santo António (4 Kms - 5 Min.)

Nave de Santo António is a plateau located at about 1500 meters of altitude. It was covered with ice during the various advances and retreats of the glaciations that occurred in Serra da Estrela and made the dividing line between the glacial tongues that spread northwards along the Zêzere Valley.

04. Nave de Santo António -» Sra. da Boa Estrela (7 Kms - 10 Min.)

Senhora da Boa Estrela - more than 7 meters high - is sculpture carved in low relief in the granite rock of the foothills of Cântaro Raso. Covão do Boi is the largest set of pedunculated and columnar blocks of Serra da Estrela, resulting from erosion and locally known as Queijeiras.

05. Senhora da Boa Estrela -» Torre (2 Kms - 5 Min.)

Torre is the highest point in the Serra da Estrela and also in Portugal, and the second highest in Portugal.
Here you can visit the Estrela Geopark Interpretation Center.

06. Torre -» Salgadeiras (2 Kms - 3 Min.)

About 3 kms from Torre (direction of Sabugueiro / Seia) we find this place of impressive and diverse beauty. On the right side take the pedestrian trail (Rota do Maciço Central) and follow the red-colored marks that will take you to the Salgadeiras. On the left side you can appreciate the immensity of the view over the Loriga dam and the whole slope.

07. Salgadeiras -» Lagoa Comprida (8 Kms - 10 Min.)

Lagoa Comprida is the best known and largest lagoon of the upper massif of Serra da Estrela. It is the main water reservoir of Serra da Estrela. In the north slope we can see one of the most interesting erratic blocks of Serra da Estrela. These granite blocks were transported by the glaciers and abandoned when the ice melted and retreated.

08. Lagoa Comprida -» Mondeguinho (15 Kms - 25 Min.)

It is the beginning of the Mondego River, where the water flows from a boulder to a basin in stone. Then it goes northeast and, in Celorico da Beira, it changes to the southwest, flowing to Figueira da Foz, covering a total of 227 Kms.

09. Mondeguinho -» Covão da Ponte (10 Kms - 20 Min.)

Covão da Ponte is located at 960 meters of altitude where the Mondego River runs in the initial phase of its route. In this space there is a great diversity of species of flora and fauna that contribute to the scenic and recreational value of the place. Here you can refresh yourself by taking a bath in the Mondego, relax on the lawn or have a picnic.
